Most of Shopify's Fall '26 Edition can wait. These five can't.
Most of Shopify's Fall '26 Edition can wait. Five items can't: agents, Shop Promise, Protect, payments, and the app deadlines.

Shopify published the Fall '26 Edition on October 28, 2026, and counts 150+ updates. Most of that list can wait until after the sale. Five things cannot: what you promise on delivery, Shopify Protect, what an agent is allowed to do, the new local payment methods, and the app deadlines that land in January.
The sources are Shopify's own pages: the Fall '26 Edition, the merchant announcement, and the docs linked under each date. Where Shopify has not said whether something is available in Canada, this page says so. The Fall '26 hub is the tracker, with a status, a country note, and the day we last checked.
Five steps before Black Friday
Decide what you will promise on delivery. The updated Shop Promise program is rolling out for United States domestic orders and drops the $5 late credit. Shopify's help center does not offer it for Canada: a store needs a US location that fulfills US orders. Claims on older orders, from before a store moved to the updated program, still run until December 16, 2026.
Review Shopify Protect if you use Shopify Payments. Shopify says Protect is already on for those stores, with no install. Rule Builder is not on. It is a separate app you choose to install, free to install and then $0.07 USD per screened transaction. Do not treat it as a switch that flipped itself.
Decide what agents may do. WebMCP lets an agent search, use the cart, and move into checkout. Shopify says agent support is limited to Chromium-based browsers, and that this has been rolling out since August. Shop Pay works in four agents: Muse from Meta, Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Instinct. Amex is coming soon, so do not advertise it. Shopify has not said whether those agents are available in Canada.
Look at the seven new local payment methods only for the countries you actually ship to. Shopify has not named the seven, or said whether Canada is one of them.
Ask the public apps you cannot live without whether they will use expiring offline tokens by January 1, 2027. After that date Shopify delists non-compliant public apps and blocks new installs. On January 15, merchants using one of those apps see a warning in the admin. Canvas is still early access. It can wait.
What the 150+ updates cover
Shopify groups the edition into sections. The holiday work is not reading the whole list. It is the five steps above, and the dates on the hub.
Hydrogen was already generally available on October 14. The app security check was already out on October 15. Neither one is new on October 28. We walked through the security check, without naming apps, in Shopify app security.
Agents, and what they are allowed to know
WebMCP is a proposed web standard. On a Liquid storefront, and on a Hydrogen storefront that loads Shopify's scripts, the store can register tools the agent calls directly. Shopify's WebMCP docs say the tools are live, and that agent support is currently limited to Chromium-based browsers. It is not something to assume is on in Safari.
The October Shop Pay story, including Claude Duet, is in Shop Pay in AI agents. Fall '26 adds Muse, Grok Bot, and Instinct. The buyer still approves the purchase. Shopify has not published a Canada availability note for these agents.
The knowledge base is now in the admin, at Sales channels, then Agentic. It holds up to 1,000 additional facts. Facts Shopify drafts from your storefront stay unpublished until you publish them. If you used the old Knowledge Base app and had more than 1,000 facts, they did not move over. You have until January 15, 2027 to add the ones you want to keep. The standalone app is gone after that day.
Dates that are actually deadlines
Black Friday, November 27, 2026, is the calendar date. It is not a feature launch. The other four dates are Shopify's: November 2 for the old Global Catalog REST API, December 16 for old Shop Promise claims, January 1 for expiring offline tokens, and January 15 for the admin warning and the old knowledge base app. Each one is labeled, with its source, on the Fall '26 hub. You can add the five dates to a calendar from that page.
The rest of the holiday work sits outside this edition. The final-month checklist covers Rollouts, Managed Markets shipping, link warnings, and UK VAT. Five changes for Shopify merchants this week is the short October 27 letter. The last time we read an edition this way was Spring Editions.
Dates that matter
Each date is labeled with where it comes from. Black Friday is the calendar. The others are Shopify's.
· Global Catalog REST API stops
The deprecated Global Catalog REST API stops serving traffic. Only matters if an app still calls it.
· Black Friday
The calendar date for Black Friday 2026. Not a Shopify product launch.
Calendar
· Old Shop Promise claims end
Last day a customer can claim the previous $5 Shop Cash credit on an order placed before the store moved to the updated Shop Promise program.
· Expiring offline tokens
Public apps still using non-expiring offline tokens are delisted and blocked from new installs. Existing installs can keep calling the affected APIs until April 1, 2027.
· Admin warning, and the old knowledge base app ends
Merchants using a public app that missed the token migration see a warning in the admin. The same day, the standalone Knowledge Base app is no longer available. Stores with more than 1,000 facts in that app need to add the ones they want before then.
